Student assistant (m/f/d) in the field of seismic measurements

Description

To support our ongoing research projects, we are looking for a committed and professionally qualified student assistant (m/f/d) for at least 6 months and 20 hours per month (more is possible, by arrangement).

Your tasks will include in particular:
- Maintaining and updating the equipment inventory (field and laboratory instruments),
- Assisting with the setup and maintenance of seismological instruments in the field and in the laboratory (e.g., configuration of equipment),
- Assisting with the maintenance of the IT infrastructure for data transmission between the measuring devices on site and our servers at KIT,
- Regularly performing simple data processing routines, e.g., for evaluating the measurement network (determining seismic background noise),
- (Optional, if interested) Collaboration on further evaluations for the creation of seismological reference catalogs.

You bring with you:
- Technical understanding and interest in measurement systems and data analysis,
- A driver's license is required,
- Basic knowledge of Linux, IT-systems, and Python is required,
- Experience with seismic measuring instruments or background in geophysics is an advantage,
- Good written and spoken German and English skills (at least B1–B2)
- Structured, and independent way of working
- Communication and organizational skills
