Tips for a successful fair visit
Check the company directory in advance
From March onwards, you’ll find useful information and filters in the company directory for the KIT Career Fair to help you plan your visit:
Find out in advance on which of the two days of the fair your desired companies will be there and at which stand you will find them.
You don't yet know who might be relevant for you? Filter all participating companies, e.g. by industry, degree courses you are looking for, keywords and much more.
In the exhibitors' fair profiles you will find more information about the company, contact details of contact persons and links to specific vacancies in the job exchange.
Create a student profile
Make yourself comfortable and just let yourself be found! This is how it works: Create a personal student profile in your account with information about your career, previous internships and work experience or your commitment. You decide what information you want to share. A contact address is important - then companies can contact you directly and arrange an interview with you at their stand in advance, for example.By the way, you don't have to register - the login works with your KIT account data.
Get your color sticker and lots of information in the student tent
Get your color sticker and lots of information in the Studi-tent With the color coding system you can see at a glance which companies are looking for your field of study and who the right contact persons are for you at the stand. You can also show what you are studying yourself - come by the information desk in the Studi-tent and get a sticker in the right color for your field of study. You'll also get lots of tips and information to help you make the most of your visit to the fair. funding programs
Just drop by the student tent and find out what else the Career Service can offer you in addition to the KIT Career Fair to prepare you optimally for your career start. The topics of the Info-Talks are the same on both days of the fair.By the way: The Career Service offers are almost completely free of charge for KIT students and alumni/ae and are conducted by experienced experts.
Get advice on your CV
Do you need advice on job applications outside of the career fair? The Career Service offers quick CV checks and in-depth coaching sessions all year round. Find out more about our advisory services here .
Think about your goals
If you’re expecting to come away from the KIT Career Fair with specific contacts or even job offers, you should invest a little more time in your preparation.
Set your goals in advance, e.g. “I want to have three conversations with exhibitors”.
Use the company directory (available online from March) with its extensive filter options to draw up a plan for your visit.
Read through the career fair profiles of companies that interest you and do some research on their websites so that you can get a better idea of: Which companies are a good fit for me? Is there anything about a company that stands out to me, and can I formulate specific questions about it?
Prepare how to start the conversation
To make sure you don’t forget everything at the exhibition stand because you’re so nervous, you should do some specific preparation just before you go. Think about (and practise!) how you’ll introduce yourself. The key here is to keep it brief – who you are, what you’re currently doing, and how that relates to the company. Also have a few open-ended follow-up questions ready, which your conversation partner cannot answer with just a yes or no. This way, you keep the conversation flowing and avoid any awkward silences. Here are a few examples of possible questions:
What do you personally enjoy about working for this company?
Are there any current projects or areas of focus that your team is particularly enthusiastic about?
What key skills or qualities do you look for when selecting candidates? What makes an application particularly interesting to you?
I have experience in [XYZ] – how could I apply this within your team or other departments?
I’ve seen that you’re looking for someone for the [XY] role – what makes someone the perfect candidate for this position?
Keep your documents up to date
It doesn’t hurt to bring a printed copy of your current CV with you. Although many recruiters aren’t allowed to accept printed documents at job fairs for data protection reasons, your CV can still serve as a useful reminder during the interview. This will help you better highlight your career history. Tip: If applications to your dream company can only be made online, ask your interviewer for help filling in the application form on the spot. You can also create or update your LinkedIn profile before the fair. This allows you to network with your contacts straight away on the spot. This also offers you real added value for the future and for starting your own professional network.
Last but not least: Be yourself
The fair has been deliberately designed as a relaxed, informal job fair where everyone is on an equal footing, so you can just turn up as you are. Formal attire, briefcases and ties are not required at the KIT Career Fair. Be yourself and come across as approachable, and make the most of this opportunity to practise initial interviews and overcome any nerves.
Voices and successes
"For me, the KIT Career Fair was a great opportunity to get in touch with technology companies. The relaxed and personal conversations at the exhibition stands in particular helped me to gain realistic insights into the companies. I became aware of a job offer through the fair – today I work there as a scientific employee in process development. I would highly recommend the KIT Career Fair to all students who want to know early on where their professional journey will take them and want to make contacts in the field. The fair is a great opportunity to find out exactly what we can do with our studies and to take the first steps towards our professional lives."Karim M., Physics

Preparation
Where can I find an overview of the companies
You will be able to find the updated directory of exhibitors here from March 2027. Note: Each company will only be present on one of the fair days, so it’s worth taking a look at the company directory in advance. There you can see which companies will be there on which day and at which stand number. You can also filter by field of study, industry and more, find out about the company in its exhibition profile, and view the companies’ job vacancies directly.
Can I make appointments with companies in advance for the career fair?
You have two options for getting in touch with suitable companies before the fair:
Simply create a student profile and let interested companies find you. The student profile also gives you the chance to be contacted by suitable companies even after the fair has ended.
If you want to take the initiative yourself: You’ll find contact forms in the companies’ fair profiles, so you can reach out to the relevant contacts in advance and suggest a time to meet at the fair.
On site at the career fair
How do I find companies that match my field of study?
From March 2027, you’ll be able to use the company directory to filter all companies by their interest in your field of study or degree programme. On the fair site, coloured stickers also provide an overview. Depending on the subject area in which they are seeking new talent, companies mark their stands with different colours. In addition, company representatives have the option of identifying themselves as contact persons for a specific subject area using fabric stickers.
Which color stands for which field of study?
Architecture, Civil Engineering Geo- and Environmental Sciences Chemical and Process Engineering Chemistry and Biosciences Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering Economics and Management, Humanities and Social Sciences Informatics, Information Systems Mathematics, Physics
Is there a job wall?
There is no physical job wall with printed job advertisements – we have decided against this for environmental reasons. Instead, we offer a pre-filtered online job market featuring the latest vacancies from the companies exhibiting at the career fair, which you’ll find here around two weeks before the event.
Is there a career fair catalog?
In order to avoid printed material and thus unnecessary paper waste, we have been doing without a printed career fair catalog for some time now. You can find all the important information about the exhibitors and the career fair on this website and in the career fair profiles in the company directory.
Can I have my application documents checked?
Yes, please bring your documents and an interesting job advertisement with you. The Career Service team and advisors from the Federal Employment Agency will be there for you on both days of the fair from 12 noon to 5 p.m. to answer your questions in a brief personal consultation. You don't need to register, just drop by the CV check in the student tent. The consultations will be offered in German and English.
Where can I get more information on applications, job searches etc.?
In the student tent, you can listen to short info talks on frequently asked topics: How should a good application be structured? What are the dos and don’ts of a job interview? How can you make the most of your visit to the fair for your job search? And much more. Just pop along – you can find more information about the program on this website from March onwards.
I'm not sure how to get started at the career fair - where can I find tips?
The best place to start is in the Career Service & Alumni student tent! Here you can get tips and information as well as textile stickers in the color of your field of study.
I have a visual impairment – is there a guide available to assist me at the fair?
Yes, please come to the student tent, which is set up opposite the Audimax on the upper Forum lawn. A tactile floor guidance system in the tent will lead you to the information desk, where we’ll be happy to arrange a guide for you.
Is there food and drink available at the KIT Career Fair?
To ensure you’re well-fuelled for plenty of great conversations at the fair, we’ll provide you with a delicious free vegetarian or vegan meal per day – while stocks last. To claim this, simply collect a food coin with your KIT Card at the information desk in the student tent. You can then redeem this at a food truck of your choice. Food coins are issued on the hour and are valid on the day of issue. This offer is available to KIT students only and is subject to availability. For a quick refreshment, you can fill up your own water bottle at the water station near the Asta container. We do not provide disposable cups to avoid unnecessary waste.
