Am Karlsruher Flüssigmetalllabor (KALLA) wird derzeit ein Wärmespeichersystem entwickelt. Dieses neue System wird bei hohen Temperaturen betrieben und kann Wärme aus Quellen wie beispiels-weise industrieller Abwärme speichern (Pdf, Abbildung 1). Das System verwendet derzeit Flüssigmetall als Wärmeträgermedium und Keramik als Speichermaterial. Um die Gesamtkosten der Speicherung zu senken, werden kostengünstige Materialien für den Einsatz als neue Speicherwerkstoffe unter-sucht. Abfallstoffe wie Stahlschlacke sind hervorragende Kandidaten, da sie gut verfügbar und kos-tengünstig sind. Es sind jedoch weitere Untersuchungen erforderlich, um festzustellen, wie diese Materialien verarbeitet und geformt werden können, um sie in Wärmespeichersysteme zu integrie-ren. Wir suchen daher eine studentische Hilfskraft (HiWi), die eine erste Literaturrecherche durch-führt und geeignete Verfahren zur Herstellung von Pellets aus Stahlschlacke identifiziert.

At the Karlsruhe Liquid Metal Laboratory (KALLA), a heat storage system is under development. This new
system will operate at high temperatures and be able to store heat coming from sources such as industrial
waste heat (Figure 2 of the attached Pdf). The system currently uses liquid metal as heat transfer fluid and ceramics as storage
material. To reduce overall cost of the storage, low-cost materials are being investigated for use as new storage materials. Waste materials such as steel slag are excellent candidates because they are readily available
and inexpensive. However, more research is needed to determine how these materials can be processed and
shaped for integration into thermal storage systems. We are therefore looking for a student assistant to conduct an initial literature review and identify suitable methods for producing pellets from steel slag.
