Beschreibung

Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) is an innovative measurement technique that uses fiber-optic cables as a densely spaced network of seismic sensors. By analyzing the strain signals measured along the fiber, vibrations and seismic waves can be detected with high spatial and temporal resolution and evaluated for applications in geothermal energy, seismic monitoring, and infrastructure diagnostics.
The Department of Geothermal Energy and Reservoir Technology at the Institute of Applied Geosciences (AGW) works on the application and analysis of DAS data within various geothermal research projects. To support these activities, we are looking for a motivated student assistant (m/f/d) to start as soon as possible, for 6 months and 30 hours per month (possibly more by arrangement).

Your main tasks include:
• Assisting with the processing and analysis of DAS data from various research projects within our institute
• Selecting and working on a specific processing topic to be defined jointly, such as:
o Processing and interpretation of DAS-VSP data
o Analysis of cementing operations using DAS measurements
o Evaluation of passive DAS recordings for subsurface investigations (e.g., using Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves – MASW)
• Supporting the development and adaptation of data analysis routines (Python, MATLAB, or similar environments)
• Documenting results

Your profile:
• Interest and basic knowledge in seismic data processing is necessary, background in geophysics
• Motivation to familiarize yourself with the field of Distributed Acoustic Sensing
• Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) are an advantage
• Independent, careful working style and ability to work in a team
• Good command of English (spoken and written)

We offer:
• A friendly and scientifically stimulating working atmosphere in an interdisciplinary research team
• Thorough training and close supervision in topic selection and implementation
• Insights into current research projects in the field of DAS data analysis and seismic monitoring of geothermal systems
• Flexible working hours and partial home office possible
